A Note from the Author:

If I had to pick one continent to travel to for the rest of my life I would pick Asia without hesitation. It may have something to do with being a Bay Area native making Asia feel like an extension of home, but the real treasure is the accessibility to flavorful, affordable food and experiences making it welcome to everyone and very easy to gain 15 lbs in a 2-month visit (yes, this happened and not mad about it).

Growing up and attending school in Silicon Valley, the AAPI community is a part of the package. My friends and schoolmates (even cousins) were often from an array of AAPI backgrounds, and my very first friend was my neighbor from Japan who filled my life with KiKi’s Delivery Service, Top Ramen, Sanrio and all of the wonderful entertainment and toys from abroad. To this day I am still a Top Ramen addict and Pachaco fangirl.

Every suburb in the Bay has its own Chinese, sushi, Thai spots and more, putting food on our tables daily. The salt, the fat, the noodles, the heat make our taste buds salivate with just the thought of the options. With AAPI communities making up 33.3% of San Francisco proper + 23.3% of the Bay Area as a whole, these businesses are a pillar of our economy, culture, and history. Let’s have their backs (literally) and get out there to support the businesses that bring us joy.
