Chowing down on great grub after a night out just hits different, and the Bay is full of top-notch spots that will serve you something scrumptious past your bedtime. Next time the clock strikes midnight and you're looking to satisfy your cravings, let our roundup of stellar late-night bites lead the way.
San Francisco
Via Bob's Donuts
(1621 Polk Street // Nob Hill)
You know we had to start with the classic! A family-owned business that first opened its doors in 1960, Bob's Donuts is bucket list material. They're open 24/7, so you can satisfy your sweet tooth whenever you please. If you're feeling brave, try to beat the "Bob's Donuts Challenge" (spoiler alert: it involves eating that massive glazed donut) and get a free donut, drink, and Bob's Donuts shirt. Challenge accepted.
(2779 Mission Street // Mission)
A tried-and-true haven for no-frills Mexican food, there's a reason El Farolito's ginormous burritos are the stuff of SF legend. Their Mission location is open until 1:45AM Sunday - Thursday and 2:45AM Friday - Saturday. Next time you're out too late partying at Zeitgeist, hop on over here.
Via Grubstake Diner
(1525 Pine St // Polk-Gulch)
Nothing hits like classic diner fare after a night of drinking, and the eats at Grubstake Diner — a queer community staple shaped like a cable car — are world-renowned. Burgers, shakes, potato skins, steaks, and more greasy goodness are served up until 4AM Thursday - Saturday.
(618 Broadway // North Beach)
Sam’s is so iconic, it's actually been designated as a San Francisco Legacy Business. The legacy in question? No-nonsense, delicious burgers, served until the wee hours of the morning (they don't close until 2AM on Fridays and Saturdays). Don't just take our word for it: when Anthony Bourdain visited Sam's, he dubbed their burger one of the "top three in the world."
Via ABV
(3174 16th St // Mission)
Craft cocktails + gourmet bar bites = a damn good night out. Order dishes like fried cauliflower, fried chicken sandwiches, and cochinita tacos until the kitchen at this trendy watering hole closes at 12AM, then keep the drinks flowing until 2AM.
(431 Natoma St. // SoMa)
This literal hole in the wall serves up some of the most unreal chow in the city until 12AM. By the time you choose between Chicken & Waffles, Quesabirria Tacos, or a Meatball Sub, they'll be closed, so make sure you don't spend too much time salvating at the menu before you order at the window.
East Bay
(3318 Lakeshore Ave // Oakland)
It's never too early in the morning (or too late at night?) to enjoy a sweet donut, and this family-run Oakland institution knows it. Open 24/7, 365 days a year, they've got everything from bear claws to blueberry cake donuts. Mmmm.
(3792 Pacheco Blvd // Martinez)
Folks, the name here says it all. If you've got a hankering for a big burger (a quarter pounder, to be exact) then this Martinez diner's got you. They're open 24 hours Thursday - Saturday, and though the burgers are undoubtedly the main event, they also serve omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, chicken fried steak, and more classics.
(4390 Telegraph Ave// Oakland)
If you’re looking for late-night bites that that aren't burgers, pizza, and fast food, this is it. Late-night sushi, sake, and udon? Say less. Open until 1:30AM from Sunday to Thursday, and until 2:30AM on Fridays and Saturdays.

(2519 Durant Ave // Berkeley)
Whoever said carbs after 7PM were a no-no is out of their mind. This Cal student favorite is serving up huge pasta dishes until midnight 7 days a week. We're not gonna lie, you'll probably end up in a food coma, so eat with caution. Or you can ignore that and eat to your heart's desire. It's up to you.
(1434 1st Ave // Oakland)
No matter what time it is, you will always find a line of people clamoring for the first-class tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, and tortas at Tacos Mi Rancho, one of Oakland's very best taco trucks. It's open until 3AM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 'til 2:30AM Sunday - Thursday. Pro tip: They're cash-only, so be sure to hit the ATM before heading out.
South Bay + Peninsula
(1941 S El Camino Real // San Mateo)
This right here is as classic as 24/7 diners get. Not only do they have all the breakfast and lunch dishes your heart desires, but their pies (made in-house!) are just *chef's kiss*. If your sweet tooth is still active in the daytime, you can also find their pies at a number of local farmers' markets.
(1155 California Drive // Burlingame)
This yakitori charcoal grill and ramen spot has some of the tastiest food you can find on the Peninsula up until 11PM every night. Head over and get yourself a Sapporo and a few skewers — you won't regret it.
(140 E San Carlos Street // San Jose)
"LaVic's" is one of San Jose’s staple taquerias. Their San Carlos location is open until 3AM every day, slinging Mexican classics alongside their mythical orange sauce (ALWAYS order this on the side — trust us, it's bomb). The food here is worth staying up late for!
(447 E William Street // San Jose)
This spot is strictly a late-night operation, since it's only open from 8PM to 3AM Monday - Saturday. Their menu is stacked with tacos, burritos, quesadillas, fries, bacon-wrapped hot dogs, and anything else you might need to satisfy those late-night munchies.
North Bay
Via Sol Food
(401 Miller Ave // Mill Valley + 903 Lincoln Ave // San Rafael)
We'll be the first to admit the North Bay doesn't have a ton of eateries open super late, but Sol Food breaks the mold, offering great Puerto Rican grub until 10PM on Fridays and Saturdays. Their flat-pressed sandwiches and savory steak with onions are sure to fill you up before bedtime, especially when you wash it all down with their refreshing Ponche.
(295 Southwest Blvd // Rohnert Park)
Don't worry, gluten-free eaters, we wouldn't forget about you! Everything at Smokin Bowls is GF, and they serve their menu until 10PM every day. Indulge in comfort food bowls and salads, ranging from indulgences like Loaded Pizza Fries to lighter fare like their Greek Salad.
(522 7th Street // Santa Rosa)
Open until midnight every day of the week, Han Bul's a la carte Korean dishes will have you dreaming about grabbing seconds. They've got bibimbap, kimchi fried rice, BBQ dinner sets — the works. What better way to cap off a late night?
