Food Lover's Guide to Takeout in SF

Going out can be nice, but we’re no stranger to the luxury of downing a box of takeout + a homemade cocktail in our sweats. Getting delicious food to-go was truly the backbone of this past year, so let's keep the bomb eats coming. But what's dinner without drinks?

Dumpling House

Dumpling House

(335 Noe St // Castro)

You already know what's good, but we'll tell you anyway – dumplings, yo. Their entire takeout menu is drool-worthy, but we recommend hopping on the BBQ pork buns, deep-fried meat dumplings, and any of the shrimp dumplings.

The Monk's Kettle

The Monk’s Kettle

(3141 16th St // Mission District)

The Monk's Kettle is comfort food-galore... but elevated. Nosh on a variety of gourmet burgers (the lamb one is our pick) with a side of fries/pretzel knots and a refreshing Belgian brewski to match. *Chef's kiss*

Sunset Squares

Sunset Squares

(59 9th St // Mid-Market)

Chances are you've heard a thing or two about Sunset Squares in the past year. Chef Dennis Lee of Namu Restaurants began dishing out fire pizzas out of his Sunset home (hence the name) and quickly gained traction as the underground hotspot for 'za during quarantine. Now, the team is not-so-secretly serving up the esteemed squares for takeout off of Market St.

Shizen

Shizen

(370 14th St // Mission)

Vegans, rejoice! And meet your new favorite takeout joint: Shizen. They specialize in an all-vegan menu, including ramen, tempura, Japanese curry, and, the star of the show, sushi. The sushi is so good, you'll forget it's not freshly caught. We recommend trying a little bit of everything!

Hon's Wun-Tun House

Hon’s Wun-Tun House

(648 Kearny St // Financial District)

Got a noodle craving? Of course, you do. And you've come to the right place! Hon's has been serving up the best of the best wonton noodles in SF since 1972, so you know it's the spot.

Nopa

Nopa

(560 Divisadero St // NoPa)

This classic California-focused eatery has all the bites that will surely hit the spot on your next takeout night (or brunch!). If you're hungry for a top-notch dinner, get the pork chop with a "Local Currency" cocktail to-go and have yourself the ultimate fancy night in.

Zuni Cafe

Zuni Cafe

(1658 Market St // Hayes Valley)

The roasted chicken icon of San Francisco. We're not sure how official that declaration is, however, we do know that most everyone in The City would agree. Zuni Cafe has been serving up their fresh, fun, and hands-down delicious menu for over 40 years, and lucky for us, they're serving that amazing roasted chicken to-go!

El Castillito

El Castillito

(136 Church St #1111 // Duboce Triangle)

Affordable, authentic, bomb af burritos – need we say more? Everything you could imagine in your dream burrito, from the meat to the tortilla to the seasonings, is made to perfection. Their tacos, quesadillas, and platos are all top-tier as well.

Turtle Tower

Turtle Tower

(501 6th St // SoMa)

Nothing hits the spot like pho on a cold San Francisco day, but rain or shine, this place has our heart. They serve 10 different Hanoi-style pho and plenty of other Vietnamese dishes that will surely keep you returning for more.

Sawaii Ramen

Sawaii Ramen

(2240 Irving St // Sunset)

We're a sucker for delicious ramen, period. But when it's also affordable, sizeable, and vegan-friendly? It's a wrap. Sawaii has a delectable ramen selection, as well as karaage chicken, sushi, and gyoza if you're craving a little something extra.

Zazie

Zazie

(941 Cole St // Cole Valley)

In the mood for a lazy Sunday brunch? Hit up Zazie and get a benedict, a mimosa kit, a stack of their famous pancakes to-go. In the mood for a Parisian supper? Get a Bourride Zazie, french onion soup, or boeuf bourguignon to-go off their dinner menu. You're welcome.
