If the San Francisco music scene is dead, then we see dead people.
On Monday, The Bold Italic (remember them?) attempted to write San Francisco's eulogy, yet again. Cool story, bro. We have one too.
It's the story of Bill Graham. It's the story of Noise Pop. It's the story of Different Fur Studios. It's the story of The Bay Bridged. It's the story of Heartwatch and Adam Vida and Sonny & the Sunsets and Hot Flash Heat Wave and Travis Hayes. It's the story being told every single night on stages throughout the Bay Area. It's the story thousands of Bay Area residents work tirelessly to share because it is a story worth telling.
San Francisco has changed, there is no denying that. But what hasn't changed is our will to fight and our passion for the local music scene. We are clawing tooth and nail to ensure the heart of this city keeps beating. Rolling into town and rehashing the same old story about bands moving to LA doesn't help protect and promote local music, it hurts us. If you really want to help, put down your phone and go to a show. Say hi. Introduce yourself. We're nice and we want you to be there. If you're not a total dick, we might even buy you a shot.
DoTheBay is a site built on the promise of what to DO tonight. If there's no music scene in SF, then why do we spend hundreds of hours each week listing shows, promoting new artists, premiering songs, throwing free parties, and interviewing local bands? You say there's no "there" there? We call bullshit, and we have the receipts to prove it.
See you out there? We dare you.
