Noise Pop 2016: Banta

Sharaya Mikael of Banta

What do you like to see and do when you’re in the Bay Area? Favorite go-to places to eat/drink/hangout?

We all love a good thrift store find so the Mission is usually where we end up if we have down time. However, we do to try to explore. Last time we played in SF we did the super touristy thing, and walked the Golden Gate Bridge as one happy family. I really wanted to get matching I-heart-SF T-shirts, but the band vetoed me. Im the cheesy band-mom that's always embarrassing them. This trip we are hoping to check out some place called The Hall, heard they have good food and billiards. Always a fan of bars with games.

What can we expect from your Noise Pop Festival performance?

A lot of giddy excitement. This is our first time playing The Independent and we are beyond stoked. Our music isn't really the crowd-surf vibe... but I'm open to new experiences.

What’s something you must absolutely have with you on tour?

A good book, and ear plugs. I always bring running shoes with good intentions but lets be honest, they never make it out of the suitcase.

What’s your pre-show ritual?

Whiskey neat, deep breath, a little inner mantra along the lines of "you can do this, you're not going to die" and repeat as necessary.

What’s your go-to hangover cure/festival survival tip?

Stay hydrated. Wear comfortable shoes. So simple, yet so hard to follow in the moment.

What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened to you on tour or during a show?

For me, the craziest phenomenon has been spotting people in the crowd who are not my close friends, or mother, who are actually singing along to my songs! It's rare, but I've seen it happen and it seriously trips me out and I can't imagine anything cooler or crazier. That will never get old.

Favorite snack?

Gushers if I'm being real, organic fruit leather If I want to sound sophisticated.

What’s ahead for you in 2016?

Our debut record comes out April 15th, so hopefully a lot more touring and a lot more people singing along at shows!
